From then on Pippi shares many adventures with Tommy and Annika, and triumphs over the adults she encounters. Pippi Longstocking is home at Villa Villekulla after being at sea with her father. He fell overboard during a storm and disappeared, but she thinks he is on a deserted island. Her mother died when she was a baby. Therefore Pippi lives alone at her home with her monkey and horse. She has extraordinary strength and a bag of gold, which helps her to live. She meets Tommy and Annika, who are her neighbors. They become friends, and she invites them into her home to eat and give them presents. The next day, she has Tommy and Annika playing the Thing-Finder game and defends a boy from being bullied using her strength. The townspeople find out about Pippi's situation, and two policemen try to get her to enter a children's home, but she gets rid of them with her strength. Afterwards, the three children ride Pippi's horse. Tommy and Annika go to school and want Pippi to go too. They convince her, but she disrupts the class. After hearing about Pippi's life, the teacher lets her go home. Outside Villa Villekulla one day, Pippi confuses a girl who is looking for her father, and climbs a tree with Tommy and Annika. When Tommy and Annika are out of school on vacation, they watch Pippi clean the floor. Then they go on a picnic where Pippi saves them from a bull. When Tommy and Annika's mother, Mrs. Settergren, decides to have a coffee party, she has her children invite Pippi. The party is quiet until Pippi arrives with her bad manners and wild stories. Mrs. Settergren lectures Pippi on her bad behavior, but Pippi still gets the last word. On an afternoon when Tommy and Annika are gone, Pippi decides to ride to town and sees boys trapped in a burning building. The fire fighters can't help; but Pippi and her monkey, Mr. Nilsson, use a tree, a board, and a rope to save the boys. On Pippi's birthday, she invites Tommy and Annika over to a party where everyone gets presents, and Pippi finds things in a trunk, including pistols, that she shoots.
