Ordinary People Summary | Chapter 1 Summary

We are introduced to the main character, Conrad, who is having trouble getting up this morning. His mind is wandering, toying vaguely with the idea that a person's life can be summed up like a bumper sticker. He thinks about time he has recently spent in a hospital, recalling things his doctor said to him and trying to convince himself that he is okay. He has been home for one month as of today. After his father calls him to make sure he is out of bed, he gets up and dresses for school. Everything is a chore, but he feels better maintaining a routine. It's what helps him get through the day.
